A forward has been doing rounds stating that -
"UNESCO Announces Indian National Anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' as the Best National Anthem Friday, September 19, 2008 "
This is big news !
However, the web is flooded with blogs and personal columns. There is no official announcement yet by any news agency.
Hence, I wouldn't want to rely too much on this tidbit.

what is the status of "saray jahan say acha...hindustan humara"? i really like this. Dr. Allama Iqbal wrote this as you must be aware.In most of the movies this one is played so it must be pretty significant. Nahi??

Saare Jahan se achha is just a patriotic song albeit a famous one.
"Jana Gana Mana" is the national Anthem since it covers all different states and various languages that exist in the country in unison...
