I am here to complete a trilogy now…

Watched Mumbai Meri Jaan yesterday…

As you must have guessed - Here come my thoughts on the movie…

I wouldn't call it a review…as I feel some movies can never be sifted through the lens of objectivity…

I also wouldn't get into details and talk about the plot…In short, the movie sketches lives of 5 individuals and how their lives changed forever after the train blasts.

The script manages to get across many an insightful points - all in a poignant manner.

It is multi layered in its approach and brings out different shades that colour Mumbai and make it what it is.

Though, I am sure that the theme is now not pertinent only to Mumbai but spans all cities and towns that have been marauded by Terrorism and its aftermath. Yet, there is an uncanny spirit and attitude that one can associate with Mumbaiites !

The best thing about "Mumbai Meri Jaan" is that it leads without being judgmental and moralistic. There are no emotional outbursts/community bashing/unity/heavy duty dialogues on patriotism…yet it manages to drive all these sentiments subtly…

One revisits the anguish and turmoil faced by thousands on the ill-fated day…it gives you Goosebumps…

The movie is also a telling comment on growing greed and consumerism, media frenzy and insensitivity and the Mumbai Police…

It offers one loads to mull over without morose lecturing…it's straight-forward and unpretentious - much like an average Mumbaiite…

The performances are all A grade and inspire various emotions in the viewers.

All in all, a must watch for all !

Completely agree with the above thoughts on the movie. It is indeed one of the best Hindi movies. We are probably witnessing a golden age in Hindi cinema. For three consecutive weeks, I saw three masterpieces (Mumbai Mewri Jaan, Rock On, A Wednesday}.The good thing is that none of them were from established big banners.

They say 70's were the golden age in Indian cinema thanks to really talented film makers like Manmohan Desai, B R Chopra, Yash Chopra, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Shakti Samant, Ramesh Sippy etc. I feel this golden run would be better as we have far more talent now.

@ Psw

I feel this instance (three consecutive posts on movies) is an exception. But yes, I wont mind more reviews if the movies are as good as I have been seeing recently.

I haven't seen all the movies but from all the reviews I have read, I am hoping they are as good as mentioned..

btw, I really dont agree that these movies are not from established big banners..
These movies maybe directed by newcomers but the producers of all three are quite establised and big banners...namely UTV, Ronnie Screwvala, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani...
And also that's the trend these days....Big banners giving opportunity to newcomers and also making "different" movies..

Yeah, too many movies, is a little difficult to digest. I am glad the author is maturing enough to understand the subtleties of life

@ psw: We are planning to watch Tahaan (So you can pardon one post, as plans were made prior to your comment)

@ india unbound: Too statistical in approach, take a chill pill

I have not posted this anonymously, as I dont fear death

Wishful Thinking :P
btw do watch the movies...am sure you would love them all..

@indiaunbound - I think apart from movie makers the audiences too have matured and want more than "run of the mill" romances...hence the variety

@DS -
am glad you have shown courage by posting under ur name...
Looking fwd to watching Tahaan...

I think its high time you change your blog's name...
like "All Movies and Nothing else" or "All Talk and No Action - Movies" or something similar...
though I watched MMJ yesterday night only...on my television...
I guess I am no more interested in watching movies...
I don't feel like going for any movie...

And AFA me being blind as you commented somewhere on your blog...yes you are right I am loosing eyesight as well vision...
and I have lost foresightedness already...
Simple things which are nearby still I can't see...
Dr. Mukta you're right...
By the way ab thodi tumhari baat karte hai...
aajkal bahut dikhaayi de rahi ho TV par...(sachchi bolu mujhe tumhari shakal yaad nahi aa rahi)...
First resemblence in Splitsvilla...
the girl who used to smile all the while...even then when Vishal and Varun dumped her...
But I liked her attitude...dont why but found her your lookalike...
Secondly candidate on Indian Idol who got the chance to come to mumbai for auditions...
she also had smiling face and uncanny confidence...
So do you have smiling face...
;)

Keep Fit & Keep writing...
Though I dont read your blog so often...and I dont understand also...;)
