My family sat glued to the television set last night.

We all wanted to listen to what Obama had to say in his Inaugural Speech.

I surprised myself as I had never taken such keen interest in any Indian Prime Minister's inaugural address.

Yet, this wasn't about the US Elections at all.

This was about a new chapter in history.

This was about 20 million people who attended and more than 2 billion people across the globe who witnessed this spectacle live on television.

This was about Obama.

In many ways, it was about the victory of a common, everyday man who dared to dream and pursue his goals.

And yet, it was not about a common man at all. It was about breaking away from the centuries' old racial prejudices and biases.

In Obama, we see bits of ourselves. On seeing his victory, we feel that the very age old beliefs of hope, hard work and honesty still hold true.

In him, we see a message that – well, all is not lost and the world is still a place worth fighting and living for.

This election also showcases the coming of age of the American Citizens – it shows their maturity in electing a candidate who was clearly, the best man available, to hold the most important office in the world.

The fact that Obama is an intelligent, well read and informed guy is also a huge respite.

If you don't know what I am talking about – here is your laughter dose for today.

Here is wishing Obama a hearty congratulations on this well earned and deserved victory.

He also needs our wishes as he faces some pretty daunting tasks ahead. However, that's a discussion for another day.

For now, let's keep the champagne flowing !!
