I am not a very superstitious person.

The only one thing I do is to actually touch wood when I feel my Chotu is the bestest pet in the whole world.

Not that it would protect Chotu from the evil eye...but bas ab aadat si ho gayi hai...

Umm....apart from that...

Yes, I also don't cut nails at night. Now, I don't know why, but my Mom always said that something BAD would occur if I cut them at night !

Bahut poocha ki bhai kya hoga...batao batao....

Mujhe kya pata...I never tried it to know the consequences was her reply...

I think this sums up the superstitions that I follow....

Though am bugged every time I have to Touch Wood...Guess will have to get rid of this habit...

Anyway, just curious about the various superstitions that people un-mindfully follow, without pausing and re-looking at their absurdity...

Would love to know the stories/trivia behind some of the most famous superstitions...and would also like to know if you have ever faced ill-luck due to non-adherence to any...

P.S. Allthecrap I do remember that a Post on NDA and it's weaknesses is pending. But I thought it would be best to come up with that post On/After May 16 :)

Thanks for your comment on my blog.
So about the superstitions, same with the Touchwood!
I have also been prohibited from whistling after sun down by my granny. The reason, it seems (I heard this on the FM)is that the sound attracts snakes.
Thats it.

My dad once said me that when we start a new task, should never discontinue on second day. If done so, it will not be successful.

I then observed for a couple of tasks if it works and "yes it did". And so I never miss to continue any imp thing on second day.

@ashkd - Wahi Toh ! I reallly wana know ki why shouldn't we cut nails @ Night...Lagta hai mujhe khud hi try karna padega...

@ARJuna - Wow. Yeh new tha...

@Anon - Ya not stopping a new task is right. But I think that is more about harnessing a habit. It's said ki if you do something for 21 days non-stop...toh you will continue to do it forever...But don't think there is any superstition attached to this...

@Devil - Ohhh...So your lucky charm helped you in exams? :)
Do share if you know any stories/trivia about commonly held notions...

The only superstition I believe is in the kohl applied to kids to protect them from evil.

What is the difference between a living body and a dead one. The living body has life this is because of the soul, while a person dies when the soul departs.

When the soul departs the body it is in open air / environment, that is why when we go to some places we feel very uncomfortable like restaurants, public parks, airports and so on. The places are not inherently bad, but they have that subtle influence.

You may call me traditional, old fashioned, superstitious, but what I am mentioning is proven. Lot of people experience positive influence and goodness when they visit a temple, I personally feel very light, this is due to the presence of auspicious. (Credit: Devotee: Gaur Gopal Prabhu, ISKCON Chowpatty)

All of these instances are very sublime and you can experience it only when you think and explore with an open mind.

As I understand from the author and the comments, Touchwood is a mere ritual. Arya Samaj has long tried to understand it, but they havent been able to prove any connection to it.

@ Author: I am glad you are growing up and maturing. Kudos
