An interesting read on the narrative surrounding Bin Laden's death.
The leader of the terrorist group was soft, a coward in the end who hid behind a woman's skirts like a little girl, having grown accustomed to living in luxury in a mansion.
Not really.

Here is a curious problem. We may safely assume that you had two parents; each of your parents had two parents, so that you had four grandparents. Arguing along similar lines you must have had eight great grandparents and so on. Assuming an average of three generations per century the number of your ancestors since the Christian Era began must have been nearly 1 trillion –1,000,000,000,000,000,000 or 1018This is vastly more people than have ever lived on the Earth. What can we do about it?

An interesting study on how the human mind can solve problems faster.
To cut to the chase : we think in more abstract terms about distant problems (or problems belonging to distant people) — and thinking at a more abstract level produces more creative solutions.
This is also probably why doctors prefer not to operate on their relatives or why a Bollywood hero has sidekicks to help patao the heroine.

While researching for a project recently, I came across two interesting bits of information on music -
David Tame writes in his book, The secret power of music -
A recent teenage fad was that of taking soft eggs to rock concerts and placing them at the foot of the stage. Midway through the concert the eggs could be eaten hard-boiled as a result of the music. Amazingly few rock fans wondered what that same music might do to their bodies.
A German sewage plant has been able to save $1200 monthly - by playing Mozart! Apparently, Mozart encourages microbes to break down faster.
The CEO Anton Stucki has to say this :
We think the secret is in the vibrations of the music, which penetrate everything — including the water, the sewage and the cells
*****
As someone who consumes a lot of music, without dwelling much on trivia, the research was quite an engaging exercise.
