Joke in the Name of Research

While browsing through Rediff archives, I came across this useful survey on Best Cities to live in India.

The survey was conducted by Confederation Of Indian Industry & Institute of Competitiveness.

Supposedly, CII mapped 37 Indian cities, on a basis of 300 indicators, for a period of 10 years and came out with these winners.

I recommend reading the article to know how to waste essential resources and come out with dumb results.

So, Delhi is the safest city in the country and Mumbai ranks first in political environment.

OK.

Once you have been adequately amused by the results, I suggest you read all comments to the story. They will keep you laughing for at least a few hours.

I specifically loved the below comment by a hurt Pune-ite, who believes Pune should have been ranked higher because -

"Pune is the only city in the world to have commercial and defense Airport operating from the same strip."

While we are still on the subject of research, all readers who like reading fact based, analytical, incisive, well researched but lengthy (8-10 pages) articles on Indian Economics & Politics - I recommend reading the Economic & Political Weekly.

I was recently introduced to this journal and have been surprised at the depth and quality it offers.

Most Romantic Movies Poll !

I think Devil Incarnate has opened a Pandora's Box by taking the 100 Qs quiz.

Inspired by her and Sayesha, I am coming up with a Bollywood Poll of -

Your Top 10 "Most Romantic" Flicks.

I shall state my most fave pics here -

  • Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi
  • Lamhe
  • Chandni
  • Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
  • Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge
  • Saathiya
It's amazing. I never thought Jab We Met would top my list. When I first saw it, I absolutely loved Shahid & Kareena. Before this flick I Hated them :) Yet, now I feel it's one of the best romantic movies ever made !

There are lots of other love stories that could have made it here like Mohan & Gita (Swades), Karan & Romi (Lakshya), Padosan, Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, etc.

However, the list above shows movies that I wouldn't mind watching again and again !

Now, I tag devil , Shoeb (he has got nothing better to do), ARJuna (he hasn't updated his blog in ages), Jebroni (Entrepreneurship ke keede ko thoda aaram dijiye), Ashwini, allthecrap and Namrata !!

Obviously, all others are free to take the quiz. But it's an absolute must for the ones tagged :) !

A matter of integrity

Frankly, am bored reading such stuff

Yeah, I know that my attitude is wrong. I should be more concerned and not show dis-interest towards such news.

Rather, this is supposed to make me spring into action and take an oath that I wouldn't be party to such stuff.

All true.

But it's sooo damn frustrating to read such demotivating news day in and day out !

A rape here, a CEO murdered there, A minister justifying the CEO's murder (This one actually made me roll with laughter, yeah I know it's not funny !), a school child killed by a truck, political despondency in responding to flood victims, blaaah blaaah blaahhhhhhhhhhhhh

I mean going by such headlines - we should be the most pathetic, hypocratic, insensitive hooligans on the face of Earth ! (I am scared as this could actually be true !)

Maybe the media should cover stories and examples of real life heroes and try and re-inforce the inherent good in Indians.

This is very much necessary to re-convert all cynics.
