Broken neck, brain hemorrhage, cigarette burns, bites.

It'd have helped had Mumbai Mirror not published the image.

And we will continue to celebrate International Women's Day, participate in the Slut Walk and celebrate womanhood in general

Yet, it is good for long term health and hygiene of rural women.

It may also be a well timed piece, somehow connected with the upcoming UP election.

Women empowerment and all.

Hopefully!

The overall literacy rate in the country has jumped from 64.83 per cent in 2001 to 74.04 per cent now.
Some sunshine news for today.

"Pakka? No other reason? Lock kar diya jaaye?? Come on, It can't be that easy!"

"Haan baba... it is the heat and the soot."

"Not the men?"

"Hell, No! The men here are becharas."

Alright then.

Puneri Ladkiyon ki kahaani - unhi ki zubaani.

The almost terrorist like facial cover up is only and only to save their nirmal, mulayam twacha from dust and heat - so said my colleagues from Pune.

So also seems to be the reason for Amdavadi women.

Finally, I can lay this personal query of six years to rest.

Though, I would have loved an answer like this :
I think they believe that the more a girl is covered, the world tries to get more inquisitive to know them; however there's no sense to this logic.

If you are a woman, drop everything and listen to this well elucidated talk by Sheryl Sandberg.

You have no idea how eerily correct she is.

*****

Talking about Indian women, the corner office is not a concern.

Joining the organised workforce and staying put, is.

And ofcourse, getting the right husbands/life partners.

Aaj kal ek cousin ki shaadi ki baatein chal rahi hain...

Kaafi saare achhe rishte aaye...aur kaafiyon ko mana karna pada...

Reason being...this sis is a PG in Management and most guys the family has met are well settled in family businesses, yet, are plain graduates.

It's important for the behen that her guy be more educated and better placed than she is...she thinks this shall ensure that she gets a "broad minded" nau jawan...

This set me thinking too.

How much does a degree matter?

Does having an extra set of MAs/PhDs on your name plate make you broad minded?

Does it ensure marital harmony and lesser ego clashes?

Will the guy be any lesser interesting if he is only a graduate? Will he lack in intellectual chatter? Would he not be worldly informed and refined in thoughts?

Would he not want me to go out and work? Would he get upset if I were adorned with fancier degrees??

Will the age old and well known bharatiya sanskar not be enough in the face of globalisation and an MBA hungry world??

Most important, would he be himself with a wife having better degrees than him?

Where does an Indian guy stand on this one?

Mummy Dearest has been sweating it out since past week.

There has been water shortage (to be precise availability only for 2 hours per day) in our locality and according to BMC sources - this shall get resolved by tonight !

Amen !

The past week has been dry - and hot - with tempers flying high due to pending household chores and unclean crockery.

Was wondering what it might be like to be a lady dressed in heavy jewels and colorful attire, walking for 10 kms. everyday, on sun-baked roads, for just a pitcher of water???

Village Belle - I salute Ye !
